Sheer Indulgence

One of the best things returning home after a long absence is the opportunity to indulge in previous delights.

We waisted no time for one such delight – sushi!

The Last Exit

As our stay in the UAE drew to an end we decided to make the most of it and do some last-minute fun things. It wasn’t easy, we had lots of things to attend to before heading back to home, but we gave it our best shot!…

A most unusual day

The idea was simple.

Drive into Oman, have a look around, stay over for the night, and return the next morning.

How difficult can that be?

You will be surprised, just as we were…

Yes, this is the big one – the real Oktoberfest !

6.2 million visitors and 7.5 million litres of beer later, Oktoberfest 2017 has been declared a roaring success by the organisers.

Hitting the German autobahn

Speed doesn’t kill – stupid driving does.

Driving at 200 km/h and faster was not only legal, it felt completely liberating, safe, and relaxing.

These are the first thoughts that enter your mind when you set eyes on Alsace.

You almost expect Hansel and Gretel to come rushing round a corner to welcome you to their little house built with colourful cookies and biscuits.

Barging and wine tasting in France

France is probably still reeling from the onslaught of 24 enthusiastic South Africans who literally barged in for a week of wine tasting  in the upper Loire valley. Not convinced? We decided to keep our intended sightseeing simple and opted to see the Notre Dame and the palace of Versailles. Unfortunately the weather was not great and we experienced spells of rain alternating with some sunshine, not that this was going to stop us!

See the world in black and white

There is something to be said about black and white images.  I was reminded of this when looking through some of my images recently, and was once again surprised to see how some images appear to come to life when viewed in black and white, or monochrome.

Visiting Greece: Part 2 – Santorini

Visiting Greece also implies visiting one or more of the fabulous islands. The biggest problem is deciding which to visit. Since we went there out of tourist season, and barely having enough time for just one island, our choice went to Santorini. This turned out to be a great decision and we were not disappointed.
