Mention ‘Toledo’ and those that have an interest in old weaponry will immediately think of swords. Toledo has long been regarded as the birthplace of finely crafted swords, daggers, and knives.

A piece of paradise

Once in a while you come across a place that can only be described as ‘paradise’. We recently had the opportunity to experience just such a place. Called Fornalutx, it’s a tiny village located in amongst the mountains on the north western part of the island of Mallorca, Spain. To make it even better, we had a whole week of staying there in a lovely villa called SA Cova.

The Heartbreak Grape

Pinot Noir has been described as the “Heartbreak Grape” with good reason. Originating from the Burgundy region of France, this fragile grape has proved to be one of the most difficult grape varietals to make wine from. Hitting the German autobahn

Speed doesn’t kill – stupid driving does.

Driving at 200 km/h and faster was not only legal, it felt completely liberating, safe, and relaxing.

Does that sound reckless and crazy?

It wasn’t – this was Germany, the place where people actually use their brains while driving.

Fairytale Alsace

Tinker Bell, Peter Pan, and Cinderella.

Princes and princesses.  Fairytales.

These are the first thoughts that enter your mind when you set eyes on Alsace.

You almost expect Hansel and Gretel to come rushing round a corner to welcome you to their little house built with colourful cookies and biscuits.
