Swan Lake

DSC_0660Cape Town City Ballet is celebrating 80 years of ballet this year, and what better way to start the celebratory year than staging Swan Lake, one of the greatest and best-known ballets of all time. Swan Lake needs no introduction, but even if you are not a ballet lover you will know this to be one of the all-time favourites and worth watching – again and again. Needless to say that is exactly what we did, we were fortunate enough to attend the opening performance of this masterpiece. Even better, I was able to photograph some of the dress rehearsals beforehand. What follows below are a small number of images that I shot, showing dancers from various casts.

I hope that seeing these images will inspire you to book your tickets (if you haven’t done so already) for this production being staged at the Artscape Opera House in Cape Town !

As part of this production there will be two performances featuring dancers from London’s Royal Ballet as guest artists – Federico Bonelli and Hikaru Kobayashi. I also had the opportunity of seeing them in rehearsal at the CTCB studio.

It was such a delight to watch these wonderful dancers performing their magic, not only during dress rehearsals, but also at the opening performance. We will also attend one of the performances danced by the guest artists.

Thanks once again to CTCB and ClassicSA Media for affording me the opportunity to shoot these images.

As always – feel free to post any comments below. You may also want to view previous ballet posts of The Tin Soldier, Belles of the Ballet, Behind the Scenes, Jaunine’s Tippy Toe edition, or Sleeping Beauty.

I would like to enquire the possibility of making purchase of your photos of the dancer on Swan Lake. Would be grateful if you could kindly quote me the size and price.
