Maybe it’s the mediterranean climate, maybe it’s the wine, but lunchtime in the Fairest Cape is like nowhere else – here it’s not an event, it is a way of life 🙂
This way of life is not limited to lunch either, it applies equally to dinner and sometimes even to breakfast. Here in the Western Cape this is a time when friends and family get together not just to have a bite to eat, but to celebrate life ! You only need to move around and observe – you will quickly see what I’m talking about. Below are a small number of images which hopefully will give some idea of what I mean.

Lunch preceded by lovely sparkling wine at a restaurant right on the beach, with the blue Atlantic in the background. How more civilised can you wish for ?

The food is usually accompanied by a good glass of wine, but sometimes a margarita will be fine too!

Lunch at a restaurant on a wine estate is often preceded by a wine tasting – a good way to determine which wines to have with your food afterwards.

Sometimes lunch is preceded by tasting beer. Small micro breweries have become quite popular recently.

A relaxed weekend lunch usually takes several hours accompanied by lively chatting and much merriment 🙂
Life in the Western Cape is certainly unique and something to experience. Once you had a taste of it your lunchtime will never be the same again!
Comments or suggestions are welcome as usual.
