Everything seemed to come together in a single blur of hectic activity that showed no slowing down for a full month. It started innocently enough with me testing out a new lens adaptor for my little Nikon V1 take-along-everywhere-camera which allows me to use my existing DSLR lenses, with Alley (our new and patient dog – see top image) playing model for my tests. The relative peace did not last very long before a string of photographic assignments quickly added pace to my life.
The following images give a small glimpse of only some of the action that happened in September. One of the first assignments for the month was to shoot some product shots for a client.
An unexpected invitation by What’s on in Cape Town to shoot Madama Butterfly, Puccini’s famous heart-rending opera at the Artscape Opera House in Cape Town, gave me my first ever opportunity of shooting opera. It was an amazing experience that I thoroughly enjoyed.
One of the really fun things we did during this hectic month was to do a studio shoot of the whole clan of our van der Merwe friends. It was the largest group of people ever that we squeezed into our modest little studio. To make it even more challenging we also employed a revised studio lighting technique to light the whole scene. Boy – did we have fun ! Below are only a few of the shots we took.
Shooting some ballet again at the Artscape, in the form of Pas de Deux performed by CTCB (Cape Town City Ballet) was another treat for me.
Needless to say that Apple & Eve did a lot more than just this – there were more product shoots, studio work, weddings and wedding location scouting – but those are stories to be told another day !
